    AV / Audiovisual Engineer, Maintenance & Repair

    OMNITEC Solutions (www.omnitecinc.com) is seeking a qualified Audiovisual Engineer to help with providing a full scope of service in broadcast engineering, audiovisual equipment maintenance and repair, equipment installation and maintenance, and overall video and television production operations for a large audio-visual and television production facility in Washington, DC.

    We seek mid to senior expert level personnel, who can work independently and who can provide expert repair and maintenance of broadcast-quality cameras, switchers, routers, audio and conference A/V equipment. The ideal candidate will also be able to select emerging technology for future system enhancements, and can do preliminary design efforts.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    1. Works closely with the Chief Engineer providing technical repair and maintenance of broadcast, multimedia and AV systems. Specific areas of expertise include video and audio connectivity, projection, touch screen control systems (Crestron etc.), DSP, conference microphone systems, fixed and ENG cameras, switchers, robotics, digital recording technologies etc. This includes the use of advanced test equipment, and performing signal analysis and equipment adjustments.
    2. Repairs or finds immediate “work around” solutions to equipment/system failures to ensure successful event/meeting start.
    3. Develops and maintains the preventative and periodic maintenance programs ensuring periodic maintenance is performed in accordance with manufacturers’ recommendations. Tracks maintenance actions, equipment status and equipment inventory using available tracking software tools.
    4. Maintains the database of broadcast and AV equipment inventory and documentation and service manuals related to installation work for diagnostic reference, repairs, obsolescence and future upgrades.
    5. Trains operational staff on systems operations, new equipment features, and other related technical matters. Makes recommendations for operational process improvements and possible equipment replacement alternatives.
    6. Familiar with CAD drawings of room/control booths so as to Proof reads technical drawings in advance of integration to confirm functionality and efficiency of signal path configuration.
    7. Serves as “line” technician during large scale events to rapidly troubleshoot and resolve problem issues.
    8. Required to occasionally perform duties when necessary outside regular duty hours, and occasionally for special events during evenings and weekends.
    9. Other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    1. A Bachelor degree with a minimum of five years related technical work experience in a lead role is preferred however practical relevant work experience will be considered. Knowledge of Crestron, Biamp and similar automation equipment in an AV environment is highly desirable.
    2. Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Strong computer skills in a Windows environment with standard MS Office applications and the ability to learn other specialized software.
    3. Good writing and documentations skills; associated experience with CAD programs is highly desired. Familiarity with tracking maintenance actions and equipment inventory in databases is required. Ability to read and interpret schematics, signal flow diagrams, and construction drawings.
    4. Ability to prioritize, manage, and evaluate work in a busy and dynamic environment. Demonstrated capabilities for innovative thinking to introduce new concepts and approaches to solving technical problems.
    5. In-depth knowledge of state-of-the industry audio visual, multimedia, and videoconferencing systems/equipment used in best-in-class conference centers. Extensive knowledge of digital audio and video production workflow, video transmission standards and systems, digital asset management systems, IP network-based file management, and production tools such as cameras, mixers, monitors, editing systems, etc., with the ability to correctly setup and diagnose problems with such equipment.

    Helpful Skills:

    1. Any associated experience with CAD/Auto CADD programs and drawings is highly desired.
    2. CTS certification highly desired.

    Senior Network Engineer/Architect

    The Senior Network Engineer/Architect provides technical expertise, strategic planning, and recommendations for new technologies and network applications for use in the design and development of IP-based television and multi-cast video distribution systems for US Navy ships.

    NOTE: US citizenship and either an active Secret clearance or the ability to immediately obtain an Interim Secret clearance is required.

    You will architect, design, and implement a network system to integrate numerous US Naval ships with an IPTV distribution network.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    - Evaluate and define network requirements for the distribution and streaming of video and audio data via IP-based network systems. Requirements to be considered include number of network hosts, number of streams, routing and switching, bandwidth, conditional access, network security and vulnerability detection.
    - Evaluate leading and emerging technologies and architectures in relation to the requirements and propose system-level network architectures. Evaluations shall include interaction with vendors and industry representatives to identify the broadest range of technological options.
    - Prepare reports and technical data for presentation to management regarding chosen architectures and equipment. Reports and data shall be strongly supported by industry standards, common best practices, and long-term reliability/supportability.
    - Lead the efforts for validation testing programs of planned architectures and equipment to demonstrate their effectiveness for use.
    - Ensure that network infrastructure is fully documented and logistically supported for its planned life cycle.
    - Provide technical expertise to develop new product strategies and enhance existing product sets.
    - Prepare life cycle upgrade plans.
    - Other duties as assigned.

    Required Skills:

    - Cisco Certification level of CCNP.
    - In-depth knowledge of LAN engineering design for data and video networks at Access, Distribution, and Core network locations.
    - Thorough understanding of modern service provider TCP/IP data networks using standards and technologies including but not limited to: Ethernet, OSPF, IGMP, STP, RSTP, 802.1q, 802.11n, and 802.11ac.
    - Knowledge, skills and experience with Cisco routing, switching, and wireless hardware, software and protocols.
    - Working knowledge of structured cabling systems and network facilities.
    - Ability to work alone as an individual contributor, as a technical lead and as a participant in a team environment.
    - Router, Switch and IP configuration experience is required.
    - Employee will work primarily in an office environment, but substantial work will be required on US Navy ships during ship checks and installations.
    - US citizenship and either an active Secret clearance or the ability to immediately obtain an Interim Secret clearance is required.

    Additional Helpful Skills:

    - Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science or Network Engineering with five or more years directly related network design experience.

    Highlands Consulting Group LLC (HCG), a consulting firm supporting the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Science & Technology (S&T) Directorate, is seeking an experienced Video Editor and 3D Animator to fill an interim part-time position that has potential to become a long-term position. The successful candidate will work under the direction of the DHS S&T Director of Corporate Communications. Most work will be performed off-site rather than at the DHS S&T facility, and candidates must have their own workstation/equipment, software, and other necessary tools. The successful candidate will be required to attend planning and review meetings and similar activities at DHS S&T headquarters in Washington, D.C.

    The anticipated start date for the position is January 12, 2015.

    POSITION DESCRIPTION

    The Video Editor/3D Animator will be required to:

    • Edit polished video programs from raw b-roll, taped interviews, audio narration and other elements provided by S&T, adding graphics, visual and audio effects, music, etc. as required
    • Design and produce digital 2D/3D animations depicting characters, objects and environments that accurately convey specific technical information and match the aesthetic context of the videos and other media in which they appear

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Edit polished videos that meet S&T content requirements and production standards
    • Work with the OCC team to support videotaping, as necessary, to ensure that studio and location shoots obtain all footage necessary to ensure complete, consistent, high-quality video products
    • Work with S&T program managers and producers, videographers, photographers and designers to develop graphics and animations that accurately and attractively convey technical concepts and information
    • Produce storyboards that give project team members a clear vision of how proposed illustrations and animations will look
    • Create original 2D and 3D animations and graphics, with appropriate texture, lighting and motion techniques
    • Manage all technical issues related to video graphics and animation, including rendering, performance, streaming, memory management, and storage
    • Work collaboratively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven team environment

    EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

    • BS/BFA/MA in Animation/Motion Graphics or a related field
    • 3-5+ years of experience
    • Strong storyboarding skills
    • Ability to produce kinetic typography animation, motion graphic animation, 2D and 3D animation
    • Demonstrated mastery of video and audio editing
    • Working expertise in 3D suite (Cinema 4D, 3D Studio Max, Maya, Autodesk Flame, Smoke, etc.), as well as compositing and photo manipulation
    • Proficiency with Adobe® Creative Suite/ Creative Cloud (Premier Pro, After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator).

    American Food Roots is an award-winning online magazine covering the history and culture of American food. We are currently accepting applications for two internships:

     

    Video Memoir: AFR’s signature feature, My American Roots, offers two-minute video memoirs about food in the lives of ordinary people. The video memoir intern will plan, execute, edit and polish these pieces, with mentoring byveteran journalists with experience at the New York Times, National Public Radio, Associated Press, Bon Appetit and other national media. The intern will build a wide range of skills necessary to succeed in digital media and will also be encouraged to express his or her own creative vision.

    This internship is unpaid. Each video will carry the filmmaker’s byline. We are happy to help arrange academic credit through your university or film program.     Post-production Intern: AFR is seeking a post-production intern to shape, edit and polish a library of videos that will run in the magazine’s My American Roots section. This section offers two-minute video memoirs about food in the lives of ordinary people. The post-production intern will have the opportunity to create a finished film from raw footage, developing critical editorial skills while applying his or her own creative vision. This is an excellent opportunity for students looking to build a reel in post-production.
